An evocative nose – gentle, intriguing and very mature, but still reasonably lively – somewhere between an apothecary’s shopand an artist’s studio (easels, canvas, linseed oil and a fruit bowl waiting to be painted). The palate sets up a mellifluous sweetness of toffee, runny caramel and maple syrup popcornagainst orange skin, crystallised ginger, Rooibos teaand wood tannins. In reduction, the nose finds dried mango and pineapple, chocolate-covered Brazils, honey on a stick and slightly over-done pecan pie. The rewarding palate has toffee and marmaladesweetness with an interesting and far from over-powering presence of oak, ginger and eucalyptus.
